Things LA Has That NYC Lacks
1. Affordable housing
2. Uncrowded outdoor spaces
3. A 24 pack of beer for $9.99
4. Non-packed supermarkets (Trader Joe’s in Union Square, I’m looking at you, you monster of claustrophobia)
5. The attainable goal of having your own yard filled with citrus trees, avocado trees, jasmine
6. Beaches
7. As-good-as-Shake-Shack burgers for half as much money
8. Ventura Blvd. GO AHEAD MAKE FUN OF ME.
9. Cheap drinks in bars.
10. The option of bumping your stereo as you drive over a canyon.
Things Portland Has That LA and NYC Lack
1. Actual affordable housing
2. Vast amounts of parks and wildlife refuges, including Forest Park at 5100 acres.
3. $1 PBRs at bars in multiple places around the city. Sometimes its $2.
4. Supermarket crowded? Go to a farmer’s market, one of many around the city. Better than Trader Joes and Whole Foods combined.
5. Having not only your yard but every yard around you filled with so many different varieties of trees and flowers.
6. Mountains, rivers and the coast/beach within reach. (An hour traffic to Santa Monica vs a 45 minute scenic drive to Seaside)
7. Happy hour tapas and food that cost less than your Starbucks latte.
8. Springwater Corridor and other multi-use paths around the city
9. Actual cheap drinks in bars.
10. I have nothing for this one because most of us don’t need to drive to get where we’re going.
